About SuperGrans

SuperGrans are an organisation of 11 registered, and IRD approved, Charitable Trusts. Our branches deliver, through skilled and knowledgeable volunteers, practical assistance and support by offering home based, one on one  tuition and demonstration of practical home management and life skills.

Since 1994, SuperGrans branches have offered individuals and families the opportunity to develop their own practical life and home management skills that can include cooking, budgeting, menu planning, shopping on a budget, household routines, clothing repair and alterations - basically, anything that will enhance and develop an individuals ability to manage a healthy, happy home and to improve the family's wellbeing and self esteem.

SuperGrans do not just work within the family home, there are many opportunities for people to attend workshops and courses specifically created to increase and enhance existing skills that will complement their home based learning or just allow them to gain new skills in a workshop environment.

SuperGrans are able achieve extraordinary results for their clients through recognising issues and influences specific to a particular individual, family, community or region ensuring any programs and initiatives are in direct response to a local or community need and not a one size fits all option.

SuperGrans Aotearoa Inc is the umbrella group of the organisation to which Branches are Affiliated. Aotearoa is staffed by a permanent employee and has responsibility, through its members, to support the Branches and to steer the Strategic Direction of the group.

How it Works

All SuperGrans services are available free of charge to any individual who would like to utilise one or more of our services
  • The first step is to make contact with your nearest branch or their may be a referral to SuperGrans from an external Agency.
  • The initial contact will be with the local Field Coordinator who will set up a time to meet with the client, either in their home other agreed location and discuss with them what is required and how SuperGrans can best support them.
  • In consulation with the client, an action plan is prepared and a compatible SuperGran volunteer mentor is assigned to provide the required support and work with the client (family) in their own home.
  • The Volunteer will contact the client to arrange a visit(s) and begin working with the client to provide the mentoring and assistance identified
  • Field Co-ordinators will oversee the program and work with both volunteers and clients to ensure the program is advancing and both clients and volunteers are satified with the progress being acheived.
